When the French tradition becomes innovation and has deep roots

In Umbria there is a winery that is , at the same time , the oldest and the youngest in the region. The castle is located in the medieval village of Collelungo , still inhabited , and home to the historic winery built in 1850 on the project that Senator Ceferino Faina shared with the Baron Bettino Ricasoli and reached great notoriety . The sites are those of the past, dug into the hillside in accordance with a wonderful architectural project that poses the cellar on three levels, allowing for the development of all phases of vinification by gravity , bridging activities hundreds of meters of tunnels dug into the rock destined still maturing of the wines .

In the nineteenth century Ceferino Faina was the first to introduce the specialized viticulture in Umbria. The old plant canopy were replaced with screws and a low density of more than 7000 vines per hectare , very advanced for its time. In the same places chosen by Ceferino Faina then there are today the vineyards of Agricola Faena , at an altitude between 400 and 530 meters above sea level, on medium -textured clay , with rocks , exposed to the northeast. There are plants with a density of 5000 vines per hectare. The training is the cordon and the varieties are Pinot Noir , Sangiovese , Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon , Sauvignon Blanc , Chardonnay and Verdicchio , for a total of about 24 hectares.
